Therapeutic Approach.

My approach to counselling is person-centered and strengths based. This means I work collaboratively with you to discover and empower the strengths you already have. I also integrate several other models of practice: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour therapy, Narrative and Interactive Drawing Therapy. Additionally I use mindfulness to help manage emotional stress levels. I view counselling as a shared effort with the relationship between counsellor and client being a key component in the counselling process. I welcome and respect people of all faiths and cultures.

ACC Clients.

I have been ACC registered for the last 5 years, working with people with sensitive claims. I have undertaken training in working with trauma. As such, a part of this includes my training in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). DBT includes skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills.

Confidentiality.

This is very important to me. What is said in the room stays in the room. The exception to this is if you are in danger of harming yourself or others then further help will be contacted. Any notes from a session are kept in a locked filing cabinet.

First Time Clients.

Each counselling session is one hour. The first session is a time to explore your reasons for seeking counselling and for us both to see if this is a good fit according to your needs and goals.

An intake form will need to be filled out.

Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly depending on your needs and schedule.

Please text or phone as soon as you know you are unable to keep your appointment.

Cost:

To ensure counselling is accessible to everyone I have endeavored to keep my fees as low as possible. However, there are ongoing costs of supervision, registration, insurance and professional development that need to be met.

Special rates apply to clients with Community Services Card, Gold Card and Student ID.

WINZ clients can access government funding for counselling. This requires a signed form from both your doctor and myself before WINZ can process your request.
